Different types of dental veneers

There are 5 types of veneers used in dentistry that are listed as follows:

1) Porcelain Veneers

This is a widely used and convenient set of veneers. It is also called as traditional veneer because it has been used in Dentistry since 1930. It is a thin ceramic shell that ensures improving the quality of your cracked or stained teeth. Because of its bright color and strong coating, it has been used as a permanent solution for aesthetic purposes.

The porcelain veneers can be fixed in two dental visits. Even though it is rigid and can last for 10 to 20 years, it cannot be repaired when the veneer gets crack or damage.

2) Composite Veneers

Made up of composite materials, the composite veneers also provide strong coating and restore the teeth’s natural look. Similar to porcelain veneers, the composite veneers also require the teeth to be polished and smoothened for bonding. Fixing this veneer is quite easy and can be done in a single dental visit.

It is quite inexpensive when compared to porcelain veneers but can last around 5 to 10 years.

Pros

  • Easy to replace
  • Available in affordable price
  • Teeth require less preparation for fixing this veneer

Cons

  • It is fragile and can be easily damaged.

3) Palatal Veneers

In general, the palatal veneers are manufactured with gold and are attached to the backside of a tooth. Meanwhile, the palatal veneers can also be manufactured out of porcelain and composite materials. This veneer is highly exploited to manage the teeth wear and tear.

4) Lumineers

Lumineers are also called dental laminates that are very thin and have 0.2 mm density. Unlike other veneers, it does not mandate the tooth preparations before fixing this appliance and it can last more than 10 years with proper care. Meanwhile, removing the lumineers is also easy.

The only downside of this cosmetic appliance is it his highly translucent that makes the adhered piece of appliance is easily identifiable.

5) Non-Permanent Veneers

These are the temporary veneers that are fixed over the teeth for a short period before fixing the custom made veneers. It is manufactured with plastic or resin material.

You can get the non-permanent veneer kit in a dental office and can be fixed in your home. Removing the fixed veneer is also easy.

Bottom line

Apart from fixing the cosmetic dental issues, dental veneers are also used as a part of treating sensitive teeth. When the teeth enamel becomes thin and exposes the inner layers, it will cause severe dental problems. Dentists use veneers as a solution to treat this problem.
