Do you have a filling which has been dislodged? Are you experiencing tooth discomfort? There is no doubt that fillings are supposed to be durable but at some time or the other, they need to be replaced. If your teeth has decayed or is otherwise affected, the dentist may recommend a dental filling which is efficient, convenient and ideal as it can be completed in one visit. With decay affecting the tooth or teeth, dentists use fillings as a substitute for replacing the tooth structure.

If the dental filling is not replaced, the teeth can get fractured, chipped and broken leading to infection and/or abscesses harming the long-term health of the tooth. There are various signs and symptoms that manifest when dental fillings need to be replaced. The benefits of dental fillings range over great advantages such as durability, a natural look, cost-effectiveness and very few side effects.

Signs That Tell You to Replace Dental Fillings

It is important to visit the dentist periodically to check on your dental health. Sometimes the dental filling gets partially or entirely dislodged it is time to replace the filling. If you already have a filling and there is tooth sensitivity or if there is discomfort in the teeth or tooth, it is necessary to get the filling replaced. If the patient has a fractured or cracked or an old filling, the dentist will check your teeth and provide a substitute. Broken fillings cause gum infection, further tooth loss and decay, pain and infection.

When the filling is cracked, there may be wear and tear on the teeth though it may take a very long time to happen, it can happen sooner if you grind your teeth. The dentist will discern that there is a crack in the filling through an X-ray. If the patient has a throbbing pain in the tooth or teeth, there is a possibility that the filling has worn away and a deep cavity has progressed.

If there is any opening or a narrow crack in the filled tooth or teeth, bacteria may enter and cause decay. If the gap is left untreated, it will become infected causing an extraction, a root canal or an extensive dental treatment. If cold beverages cause sensitivity in the tooth or teeth, there may be a crack in or around the filling. This will not only allow bacteria to invade but also expose the inner pulp of the tooth causing a lot of discomfort and sensitivity.

In some cases, the composite resin filling gets discolored and may look yellow in color. It is necessary to visit your dentist who will replace the dental filling which will restore the appearance of the tooth to render an attractive smile. In case you were injured due to a sudden attack to the mouth, there may be a fracture in the tooth or the dental fillings may get loosened, chipped or dislodged. Your dentist will immediately help the situation with the right treatment which will lessen the pain and regain your confidence.  Your dentist will replace the filling if it has become old with wear and tear and prevent any further loss to the tooth. The best way to preserve your dental health is to maintain periodic visits to the dentist.
