A teenager’s beautiful smile was recreated with fixed orthodontic treatment

Smiling has been considered a welcoming gesture for ages; hence people tend to stay away from those who feel hard to smile. Individuals with distorted or twisted teeth hesitate to deliver a smile because of their crooked teeth appearance, irrespective of their age or sex. Here is the story of revamping the pretty smile of a teenage girl who felt reluctant to smile confidently due to her uneven teeth misalignment.

A 17-year-old girl came to our clinic on July 2021 to straighten her teeth in both jaws. She was very upset with her unattractive smile, so she sought our support to get her teeth straight. We promised she would receive a gleaming smile. We began her teeth straightening treatment on July 03, 2021.

Our in-office orthodontists Dr. Syed Ashique and Dr. Hemanath began the treatment by taking the primary restoration measures. Then a deep dental cleaning procedure was performed to ensure the girl had clean teeth. It is followed by a diagnosis process involving taking necessary radiographs and photographs to detect the kind of malocclusion she had.

We found the girl had Class 2 Division 1 malocclusion. The lower first molar moves toward the back of the mouth in this type of malocclusion, while the front teeth protrude forward. The lower lip is compelled to rest behind the upper teeth due to this alignment issue.

Due to the complexity of the crookedness in her teeth, our orthodontists felt that teeth movement would take a larger time with Invisible braces. Hence we convinced her to wear metal braces. Her parents also gave consent to the treatment criteria we planned. The orthodontic doctors glued metal brackets and fixed archwires to her teeth.

The metal brace’s archwire continuously exerts force to reposition the teeth gradually. It should be adjusted or tightened periodically. For this reason, we asked her to come to the clinic once a month. She also regularly has her braces tightened by our dentists. During every visit, we found the teeth straightening process went according to the plan. This process had been going on for about 1 year.

It has come to an end recently on October 10, 2022 as her teeth alignment is corrected. We did this alignment within 15 months. As guaranteed, our orthodontic doctors have given her a flawless smile.

In general, the teeth start to shift after the braces are taken off. Therefore, the patients are asked to wear an appliance called a retainer for a short while to keep the repositioned teeth in place. Hence we provided her with a fixed retainer in the lower arch and a removable retainer in the upper arch.

The young lady is overjoyed to have received the nice smile she had only ever seen in other people’s mouths. She expressed her sincere gratitude to our orthodontists, sister Javena, who helped the doctors during her treatment, and our support personnel.
