Sendhil Dental’s Express dentistry treatments – Fastracking replacement for a Septuagenarian

Everyone loves to flaunt a flawless smile with the perfect set of teeth where even one’s age doesn’t even come into the equation. Here’s a story of how our Sendhil Clinic performed advanced all-on-four implant placement and complete denture replacement in both jaws for a 70-year-old woman.

It all started when a 70-year-old woman’s son living in the USA came for a vacation to his hometown in Chennai, Tamil Nādu recently. His mother, who is partially edentulous, where her center teeth in the upper jaw were missing resulting in a flawed smile was already wearing an upper complete denture and a lower partial denture, which is almost a decade old, that didn’t quite age well as the years went down.

 As his son was due to leave India again for his work and will be away from his mother, he wanted to make sure she is healthy and fit enough to take care of herself as she lived alone with no caretaker.

He started stumbling upon the idea of replacing her mother’s old removable dentures, which are quite inconvenient for her to use and eat with considering the age and effort it takes to remove them on and off, they were looking forward to getting the dentures fixed or opt for long-lasting treatment options as an alternative for the old removable ones.

After doing their fair share of research in finding more trustable and convenient clinics to get the dentures fixed, they approached our Sendhil Dental Clinic, for more reliable and comfortable treatment options as we offer our patients a never-ending list of convenient dental options to choose from based on the age and dental complications.

As she is comfortable with the upper removable denture and finds difficulty with her lower denture alone, we decided to proceed further with our advanced dental examinations that involve a few tests. After evaluating her clinically and radiographically that provided her blood picture which was good for her age.

We later decided to take up the CBCT scan which allowed us to evaluate the underlying bone structure, as well as the nerve pathways and surrounding soft tissues. The scan results showed that she had adequate bone density, so we suggested an all-on-four implant placement in the lower arch and a new complete denture in the upper arch.

Considering her age and to limit the postoperative complications and symptoms we also suggested that she undergoes the operation under conscious sedation to which she agreed.

After explaining the treatment procedures in detail and the benefit of using all-on-four dental implants which eliminates the need to get an individual implant for every single missing tooth to the patient and her son, we made mandatory measurements of her jaw through advanced digital scanning and escalated the case with our anaesthesiologist and scheduled the operation date based on the convenience of the patient.  

As planned, the operation was done under conscious sedation under the anaesthesiologist’s surveillance. Removal of the worn-out teeth with four implant placements in the lower arch has been done successfully. On the same day, measurements have been taken up for the prosthesis which will give her a natural set of teeth appearance to her outlook.

On the day of follow-up, she barely presented with post-operative complications as we did the treatment under conscious sedation and precise procedure that usually eliminates the possibility of any complications.

Two days after the implant placement, a new complete denture in the upper arch and a beautiful, fixed implant denture in the lower arch was delivered to the patient.

It was safe enough to say that we exceeded their expectations the as it didn’t just look perfectly integrated into the dental structure giving out a flawless smile but also seamlessly became a part of her dental structure making her feel more relaxed and comfortable.
